Hi Jim. My husband and I own a house on Beechmont Avenue that is part of the J. H. Gerrard subdivision. The original part of our house has a stone foundation that we hav1e been told appears to date back to the 1850's. I believe the original Gerrard farm was divided up into plots in 1859 and I would love to figure out if this house might have been part of the original homestead. If you have any insights or suggestions on how I might find out, I would love to hear from you. P.S. I love the Bulwark! You are doing a great job of helping us all to keep up with the Trump crazy train!
Thank you SO much! I will keep you in the loop on what, if anything, I discover. In the meantime, I will be promoting you and The Bulwark. I am part of the Cincinnati Blue Movement group, a Facebook group started immediately after the election by a young mother in Anderson. I have a small group that will be meeting next week to discuss the current issues we are most concerned with and deciding next steps for our group. I will be sure to encourage everyone to start following you and, hopefully, subscribe to The Bulwark.
You'll like this guy, too -- Josh Junker. I know him from a group called Civic Cincinnati and various rabble rousing things we're both involved with around town. He's digging into lots of historical stuff around the city. https://x.com/JoshJunker2

Hello Neighbor! Yes, I see you on the "J H GERRARDS SUB". The book I reference is a good start and may even be at the Mt. Washington library branch!
From there, I went to the CHPL map database to get some of the art here, and as it's carved up for fire insurance maps, you might get a sense of where your house fit as the land got subdivided. (https://digital.cincinnatilibrary.org/digital/collection/p16998coll9)
I think your property is part of the picture I used as the header image, but it's cut off. That was a 1922 fire map.

Since you're delving into local history, you're not too far from this site, across from Lunken Airport: https://cincinnatipreservation.org/pioneer-memorial-cemetery/.
In fact, you could even bike there from Mt Washington exclusively on walking/biking paths once you reach the Beechmont Bridge Connector (https://www.greatparks.org/about/projects/beechmont-bridge-connection-project).
I will add it to the list, along with El Rancho Rankin, which I have quickly become a little obsessed with.
