If you’re an east sider, odds are that this winter you’ve driven past Fifty West on Wooster Pike and seen its little hockey rink.
Actually, it’s for curling and can be rented out, but for $10, you can get a pair of skates (or bring your own) and go for a spin on the ice. A sweet deal as you breathe in the sweet aroma of brewing beer.
Soon to be boasting three locations, a bit about Fifty West’s history:
Located in a former roadside speakeasy on US Route 50 heading west into the city of Cincinnati, Fifty West Brewing Company first opened its doors in November of 2012. Since then, one thing has remained the same. Every time you have a Fifty West beer, you know it was handmade in small batches with a focus on the four virtues we hold closest to our hearts: craftsmanship, tradition, innovation, and patience.
I am not a drinker anymore, but they do offer NA beer (hop water), THC spiked seltzers, and a bunch of beer. Obviously, I cannot vouch for its goodness, but my wife and extended family can! The NA grapefruit hop water was tasty.
And so was the milkshake from their “burger bar” —I tried root beer and it was quite good. More on the food in a bit.
Twin B has taken to skating and other adventurous activities!
Twin C has been a bit more cautious but still willing to try, and fall, to get it right. A perfectionist, she’ll get there.
The burger bar was great. If you’re curious about the ways you can get the burger done, there’s a way for every state US 50 goes through:
While the Missouri was enticing, I had to get the Ohio (sans mustard, which I am sure was good) because, well, #Ohio.
The hot dog and chicken fingers looked good, too.
And it was just the right amount of chili. And the famous “fry test” that I administer? Passed with flying colors.
If you’re looking for a lax ice skating venue in a nice setting, good food, and the smell of a burning fire (but no ice patrol!), this is the venue for you.
Both twins asked if we could go back, and we definitely will.
Ah, I miss Fifty West. Very fun in the summer too with volleyball
So what is your famous “fry test”?
