My mother in law and her family were from near Middletown, Ohio. My grandkids, 5 generations later, still talk of wershing the dishes and clothes.

One thing that struck me as odd we moved to Cincinnati in the 50s, was that the locals called bell peppers mangos. Clearly the two aren’t remotely related, but when I asked people why no one had an explanation. Did the old folks call green peppers mangos up in Cleveland?

Hi, Jim. I used to live in Chatham, NJ, which was settled in the early 1700s. The main route for commerce in those colonial days was the king's turnpike. It was a toll road. The good citizens of Chatham developed an alternate route that ran parallel to the king's toll road. It was called the Shunpike. Later, in the 1770s, George Washington chose Morristown, NJ as his first winter headquarters and posted his troops in Chatham.

My best to you all in your new digs. Kind regards to Gus and Rusty.
